Are short bouts of exercise as beneficial and protecting against heart disease as longer workouts?
A recent study by a Harvard alumni concluded that men who expended 1,000 to 2,000 calories per week in exercise -whether it was during one or two long sessions or many short sessions, has a 20% lower coronary risk than men who exercised less. As I have always believed, it's the TOTAL number of calories expended each week that is most important. (As reported in the University of California, Berkley Wellness Letter™.)

Hate to Exercise? This week rather than looking at exercise as a weight loss component, look at exercise as preventative medicine. Exercise is your daily pill of health and well being. As long as you include your daily dose of exercise you can assure yourself that you are doing the most important thing to fight against disease and premature aging. Exercise isn't punishment for an imperfect body; exercise is the gift you give yourself because you're worth it. |
See yourself as you want to be, not as others see you or what you think you should be. You were designed to be unique, singular, you. You will reflect your unique qualities by following the beat of your own drum, not the beat of another. |
This week, think about portion size. Often times when it comes to "dieting" we only think about "bad" food or what we "can't" have. Instead, focus on healthy portions. Walking away from the table feeling satisfied vs. full. We're used to the bloated feeling after a meal. So this week as you sit down, think of portions, it can make the difference between feeling guilty vs. feeling satiated. |
