Fact or Fiction Body

If you're not flexible, you really shouldn't try Yoga or anything that requires flexibility.

Fiction: The beauty of Yoga is that is allows your body to gradually ease in to more flexibility. Too often people will start some type of exercise program and try very aggressive stretching when the activity that they're doing doesn't "jive" with the stretches they're doing.

Regardless of flexibility, or lack thereof, Yoga is for every-body. There are many different styles of yoga, so do your homework and try them out until you find the one that works for you!

As warmer weather approaches, start off gradually getting outside and starting your cardio program. Remember, if you've been inside on a treadmill walking or running, outside is very different so take it easy. Do to the topography, your body works a bit harder and challenges your muscles more than just a treadmill that remains on a steady incline of 1-2% and a steady speed. So take it easy on that first outdoor walk or run.

Mind Spirit

According to the March 2008 IDEA Fitness Journal, The University of California, Los Angeles, has created a Mindful Awareness Research Center. Within the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, the Center's mission is to "foster mindful awareness through education and research to promote well-being and a more compassionate society."
